Memories

On Wednesday of this week, my great great aunt Annie passed away. She was 92, battled cancer for four years, had a lazy eye and a glass eye, and her final straw was pneumonia. For every holiday, she and her sister, my great great aunt Mamie(they lived together), have all 50 or so family members over to their house for a meal and bonding time. Jesus and family are treasured in our family.
With a big Italian family, there is always lots of food and laughter, football in the yard, card games, and LOTS of hugs and kisses.
I will always remember my great great aunt as the loving, generous, fight-til-the-end person that she was.
You see, we all have memories like this. Some are sad, some are happy.
Maybe you have memories of your favorite birthday party, or your first day of school. Or maybe you have memories of when your family used to get along, or your friend who turned their back on you.
The good memories are much more preferred, but the good and the bad memories are necessary in God’s plan for our lives.
When we think of happy times in our past, we are filled with joy and love, inspiration, and determination.
But when we think of the sad times in our past, we can feel defeated, angry, regretful, and disappointed.
We must feel the bad memories in order to enjoy the good memories.
Memories are a very important part of us growing as people. The good memories help us to remember the good things in our lives. The bad memories remind us of how things have gotten better, who we do not want to be or become, and how God works in our lives.
All of the bad memories and moments in our life strengthen us. They teach us to look to God, and they teach us to thank him for all He has done in our lives.
